A few months ago I put a call out on Twitter for ideas. I’d been asked to take photos for the local Rugby Club’s calendar.
In the end the organisers had a pretty good idea of what they wanted and it involved a lot of indoor photography. Not confident that I could do them justice, even with a loan of a directional flash, I had to pass on the job and advised them to get a photographer with some decent lighting kit.
They did, but came back to me in September and asked if I could do a couple of outdoor shots, one for the cover and a Christmas themed one for December.
So I made the cover.
Eeek!
My first printed and sold for money work.
Not money for me of course – money for the club.
You’d be surprised how little I.. ahem.. saw on this shoot.
No really.
I was all like “frame it”, and “expose it right first time cos these guys are not going to be happy if I ask them for a re-run!”
Even when they all mucked in and turned the score board round so it wasn’t in direct sunlight, I was metering and faffing around with the settings on my camera.
It was all very decorous.
IT WAS!
And they were very good sports.
Or is the word “exhibitionists”?
Hahaha I love the last photo! AWESOME!! Now then, where do I get one of these calendars from?
Ah cheers you.
On sale from Monday. All proceeds go to the rugby club fund for bigger socks 😉

Please can I come and be your assisstant? Although, I think you’re quite a lot out of my league, I’ll just hang around and drool while handing you probably the wrong equipment when you ask for it.
Well I did have to change lenses a couple of times – y’know – to fit them all in 😉
See how excited I am? Far too many s’s in assistant!
OMG. Love!!!
And not a funny shaped ball in sight.
ROFL! Fabulous photos! Well done you! 😀
Cheers Livi – the things I get roped into!
Those boys certainly seem to have enjoyed filling those socks…
Thankfully this was the third shoot they’d done and they didn’t need a lot of persuasion!
Ummm, next time …. need an assistant?! *drools* hehehehehehe!
Bloody well done hunni! you are so talented! Hope I can be as good as you one day 😀 x
Haha – a second shooter for the out-takes?
Thanks Hayley – it was fab to be asked to get involved with this – bit of a much needed confidence booster 🙂
*ahem* maybe you should sell that as a background/screensaver and charge people to download it to their Pcs!
Presumably you needed a wide angled lens!! He he he! GREAT PHOTOS!
I sure didn’t need a zoom anyway!
What a shocker! Perfect for a Monday morning. Thanks!
(I was a little creeped out by them all holding each other’s “socks.” But it must be good photography to elicit a strong reaction.)
Well done!
So were they! Not my idea I hasten to add but it must have passed inspection since that’s the one they picked for December – I preferred the second one myself – bit mad 🙂
I will take the one that is third from the right (in the first picture…the only one that is standing facing forward). Damn…now that is what I call a JOB!! YOu did great!!
And where, pray tell, will you be taking him? 😉
Just around the other side of the Rugby scoreboard…you know, to make sure his props are in good working order!! =)~
Seriously, I really enjoy your blog. I never know what I am going to find when I click over. Will it be a picture of sunflowers, maybe castles, maybe an awesome “Same Old Lang Syne” story with a happier ending (you need to write more of these little stories) or maybe a bunch of basically naked Rugby players to start of my Monday morning just right. Love it!
Fabulous. Told you those shots were bloody brilliant! BTW tagged you in a meme over at mine..xx
You calling me a twat? lol! I have a very cool follower in my first five – gonna show off.
*wipes steam off specs* oh my! How fab! Great shots, what fun!
Those photos are the funniest thing I have seen for weeks!
Well done you! Those photos are hilarious!
love these, absolutely love them 😀
I remember the twitter conversations about fruit and all kinds of props! These photos are brilliant – something very Oxbridge about the first one!
Hope this leads to lots more commissions x
Wow! They are fantastic photos x
Brilliant – well done you!!
