5 me-things into 5 child-free hours does go

27 Nov

For the first time in I cannot remember how long I had the house to myself for five whole blissful hours today.

If I wanted to I could bathe, blog and bake. Sweet freedom. No fighting to break up, no niggling setting me up for a premature stroke, no sound. No thing at all.

So what did I do?

1. First I took a shower with Dave Grohl

stfusrslyaa2OK the rest of the guys were there too, even that one with the million teeth… but really I only have eyes for Dave…

all-daveHopefully loud enough to annoy the neighbours, who have been let off pretty lightly this year since the PC bust and we only replaced it with this Mac Mini a couple weeks ago.

Take That and shove it over your 4 metre fence – well Foo Fighters but ykwim.

2. On MWA‘s recommendation I went to the bathroom with the door firmly closed and locked. When MrW and I shacked up in 2002 K&A were 6 and 5 and I didn’t even have a lock on the bathroom door, such a mechanism being totally superfluous. Needless to say he immediately delved deep and found the one and only DIY bone in his body (somewhere in his inner ear I think) and fitted one. From 8am til 4pm it’s still rarely used. My La Redoute delivery man has a habit of just opening the door and chucking my stuff in the hall. Admittedly he’d have to turn his head to see the bathroom door, but really, I should practice at least shutting it, so thanks MWA, it was a bit claustrophobic but I’ll get used to it in time for them all leaving home I am sure.

3. I turned the Cartoon Network off. Admittedly it took me two hours after Paul left to notice it was still on. And turning off Chowder is a major achievement. Funny.As.Fark.

4.Straightened my hair

5. Played Peter Gabriel so loud I didn’t hear the phone – danced as if nobody was watching – cos nobody was.

I didn’t study, iron or pick up a single thing that I hadn’t dropped myself. I will spend the weekend crippled with guilt I am sure but for now, school’s nearly out and I am calm and prepared for their return. Well… except for the small fact there’s nothing prepared for dinner, and the floors are manky and I haven’t done the breakfast dishes. Bugger.

I’m completely jealous. Only 2 more years until the boy goes to school. You must have a huge shower to fit them all in there – where’d you put the drum kit?

Wonderful! It would have been such a waste to spend your child-free hours doing housework. Now there’s something you would have regretted. Glad you managed to close the door. πŸ˜‰
