The Gallery #3: Red

17 Mar

I’m not normally a fan of selective colouring but to be honest it didn’t take much! Kathryn’s hair is black, her clothes are black, the stairs are white.

Her boots are red.

I really like that! Personally I love colour pops like that when done in the right way. Thats a great photo the way it shows her as a person!

Thank you – I think my daugher’s going to enjoy the feedback as much as me 🙂

What a striking picture – how DO you do it?

    • mrsw March 17, 2010 at 5:01 pm #

I take loads of photos and if I’m really really really lucky, one or two of them are no bad 😉

  3. Josie @Sleep is for the Weak March 17, 2010 at 10:00 am #

This looks it belongs in a glossy magazine! What a stylish girl you have.

Loving your work as always Mrs W x

    • mrsw March 17, 2010 at 5:02 pm #

Ooh thanks Josie (and she does enjoy a photo shoot) 🙂

I think this photo is stunning. Your girl is most stylish and the boots are fab!

      Thank you 🙂

  6. Lorraine March 17, 2010 at 12:25 pm #

Really love the pop of colour that the boots give the photo. Great shot.

    • mrsw March 17, 2010 at 5:28 pm #

I actually toned them down a bit they are not so much red as RED!!!! 😉

  7. Trish@ Mum's Gone to March 17, 2010 at 12:33 pm #

Ah I knew I’d find a good’un on your fab site – as always you don’t disappoint Mrs W.

    • mrsw March 17, 2010 at 5:14 pm #

Aw thanks – I does my best 🙂 Having a 14yo hangong over my shoulder going “Eeew you are NOT showing anyone that” helps in the selection process somewhat.

  8. ella March 17, 2010 at 1:29 pm #

    Lovely pic, very striking x

    • mrsw March 17, 2010 at 5:31 pm #

      Thank you very muchly 🙂

  9. Kelly March 17, 2010 at 1:29 pm #

I was never that fashionable as a teenager 😉 The photo is great. I am also not a huge fan of selective color, but it really works here.

    • mrsw March 17, 2010 at 5:16 pm #

They are so lucky these days in that “anything goes”. I wonder sometimes if fashionable means mini skirts, fake tan and Jane Nor…. or this…. or that? She weaves her own path through it with the help of some stuff I kept from 20 years ago (just as I did with my Mum’s clothes from the 60s!).

  10. Marylin March 17, 2010 at 1:37 pm #

    Oooh I like it! 😀

    • mrsw March 17, 2010 at 5:17 pm #

You wanna borrow her? She does enjoy this (my boys? not so much…)

  11. Caroline March 17, 2010 at 3:03 pm #

Great photo, the type I always wish I was clever enough to take!

    • mrsw March 17, 2010 at 5:04 pm #

All you need is a compliant, agreeable and posy teenager – there’s loads of them about 🙂

  12. Nova March 17, 2010 at 3:34 pm #

Stunning!! I want to be able to take pictures like that.

    • mrsw March 17, 2010 at 5:06 pm #

Thank you… this photo is from a set I took the first day I flipped my camera off the Auto setting, believe me for every good shot there were about 100 totally rubbish ones. I strive to lower that ratio 🙂

  13. Marianne March 17, 2010 at 4:32 pm #

Bloody marvellous, as always. Love checking out your photos 🙂

    • mrsw March 17, 2010 at 5:25 pm #

Thank you so much, y’all are too kind 🙂

  14. Plan B March 17, 2010 at 4:43 pm #

Amazing! It looks like a poster, or an album cover or something…

    • mrsw March 17, 2010 at 5:07 pm #

Oooh that one she will like reading 🙂 Thank you!

  15. Chelle March 17, 2010 at 5:51 pm #

I love your post and your blog. What wonderful photos!

    • mrsw March 17, 2010 at 7:28 pm #

Thank you Chelle – I think yours is just about my favourite this week – I keep going back to look and try to figure out where you could possible have been standing when you took it! Is there a viewing pool? The windows on the one at Edinburgh Zoo are completely submerged so you don’t get that waterline – which I just love in your photo – and it doesn’t look like a human swimming pool (all blue) like Edinburgh’s.

  16. Rosie Scribble March 17, 2010 at 5:53 pm #

Wow! Incredibly striking! And I love red boots.

    • mrsw March 17, 2010 at 7:25 pm #

Everyone really ought to have at least one pair of high heeled shiny red things don’t you think? 🙂

  17. claire March 17, 2010 at 8:04 pm #

    Love it!

    • mrsw March 18, 2010 at 12:53 pm #

Thankyou! Love your rainbow flowers too but can’t comment since I don’t have any of the IDs your blog requires 😦

      • claire March 18, 2010 at 12:57 pm #

Thank you. To be honest, i have no idea how blogger works!!

  18. Priness_L_88 March 17, 2010 at 8:14 pm #

Adore that photo. Especially as initially I thought it was black and white, then I scrolled down and those fantastic red boots jumped out at me!

    • mrsw March 18, 2010 at 12:50 pm #

Thank you. I only really had to fade her skin out a bit to get the black and white look, we’ve both got pretty monotone wardrobes!

  19. Tara@Sticky Fingers March 17, 2010 at 9:32 pm #

That is your daughter? If she doesn’t ask you to have that enlarged and posted very large on her bedroom wall she is MAD.
She looks like a pop star. Very very smart. Me likey

    • mrsw March 18, 2010 at 12:38 pm #

Oooh you’ve just given me an idea for her 15th birthday – cheers m’dear 🙂

  20. Brighton Mum-Teenage Angst March 17, 2010 at 9:38 pm #

Stunning photo! The composition is great and the boots ‘pop’ right out at you.

    • mrsw March 18, 2010 at 12:44 pm #

Thank you – they are so different from teenage me and my teenage friends – we hated cameras – I suspect it’s all to do with having to put up with what got developed rather than the instant gratification of deleting crap photos they have today 🙂

  21. Vegemitevix March 17, 2010 at 10:38 pm #

What a great picture, this really is quality photography. Have you freelanced professionally? I’ve worked with lots of freelance photographers, and I love your style – the technical stuff is great, the composition is excellent!! Love it.

    • mrsw March 18, 2010 at 12:41 pm #

Me? Heck no! Wouldn’t even know where to start… but I suspect it’s somewhere roundabout getting to stage where at least 1:5 photos are good rather than my current 1:30!!

  22. Barbara March 17, 2010 at 11:10 pm #

I may just go out and buy a pair of red boots on the strength of that photo. It is amazing. Send it to Fish and see if he’d like to use it as an album cover – I bet he would.

    • mrsw March 18, 2010 at 12:42 pm #

Funny thing – all his solo albums have had his own fizzog on the cover…. 😉

  23. Louise @ WeeWifie's World March 18, 2010 at 5:53 am #

I’ve always wanted red shoes/boots been too scared to be so daring!

This photograph has re-ignited this desire I’ve been managing to hide from…

    I NEED red shoes or boots… it’s no longer a want. It’s a need, a necessity!

That’s what a powerful photograph will do to a woman!

    • mrsw March 18, 2010 at 12:42 pm #

£10 out of Internacional – get in there!

  24. Adrenalynn March 18, 2010 at 12:34 pm #

WOW! Stunning girl, stunning boots, stunning photo! I love it, love it, love it! And suddenly I’m really upset there is still snow on the ground so I can’t wear my red killer heels…

    • mrsw March 18, 2010 at 12:46 pm #

      Thanks – I don’t think I’ve had red killer heels myself since I was 18. I must try something non-black sometime 🙂

  25. Jo Beaufoix March 18, 2010 at 12:39 pm #

Wow that is very cool. Your daughter is tres funky. I love the stark contrasts and the brightness of those fab boots. Brilliant capture.

    • mrsw March 18, 2010 at 12:48 pm #

Aw thanks – hopefully there will be some photo prompts coming up where I can share her face too 🙂
I wonder if “moody mare”, “stinking attitude” and “whatever!” are on the cards?
