The Gallery #14: Still Life

Even the still photos scream noise to me…

banging and crashing

and running

homework strife

and that’s not a word!

Just us I guess

Life not all that still

Love them all!! But particularly love the first one. I really struggle to get my white backgrounds white without blowing the lot out. Any tips? You may have noticed I use black a lot for my bg’s LOL.

    • mrsw June 2, 2010 at 10:43 am #

Thanks Annie – jeez – tips? Nothing fancy! I pin a white table cloth to the kitchen wall. A bit of selective exposure correction in Photoshop and Bob’s you Mum’s brother 🙂 I quite like a blown out look though, I’m all for a bit of over exposure.

Ahhhhhh love it! I must have billion photos of the Smalls cars and trucks and diggers and god knows what else. The things that are only still when the Smalls aren’t about… ;o)

I miss my 5 year old daughter’s junk – all frills and lace and sunbeams – I wonder if she would regress 10 years for me? 😛

I love the last one the most… I couldn’t think of anything for Still Life… there’s nothing still in our house! 🙂

  5. Lindsey June 2, 2010 at 12:04 pm #

  6. TheMadHouse June 2, 2010 at 12:11 pm #

wonderful images again, I love the one of the converse. I must sort something white for taking pic of my crafty makes

    • mrsw June 3, 2010 at 9:25 am #

White is a very forgiving background – not so much for people but for “stuff” it’s quite fab.

  7. @jencull (Jen) June 2, 2010 at 12:34 pm #

Love these photos, the story of your family:) Brilliant. Jen.

    • mrsw June 3, 2010 at 9:26 am #

Thanks – sadly they don’t pile their shoes up quite so prettily – in fact finding two that match is a daily challenge!

  8. Barbara June 2, 2010 at 12:58 pm #

Excellent pics. Although, there goes my idea for using the go-gos!

    • mrsw June 3, 2010 at 9:26 am #

  9. Kelly June 2, 2010 at 1:04 pm #

I’ve never liked the term “still life”. Life is never still. Great shots.

    • mrsw June 3, 2010 at 9:27 am #

Quite – tis simply “life” 🙂

  10. London City Mum June 2, 2010 at 1:15 pm #

    • mrsw June 3, 2010 at 9:30 am #

Thank you so – my son must quite like his shoes photo too since it’s his Facebook profile pic (high praise indeed from a teenage boy!)

  13. Sandy Calico June 2, 2010 at 2:50 pm #

Wow, still life isn’t usually that stressful.
Oh and I need a pair of those purple converses and I need them now! 🙂

    • mrsw June 3, 2010 at 9:31 am #

You want them? Size 4 – bought in December – outgrown in March – I swear if he stood still long enough I would see that boy’s feet grow!

  14. Priness_L_88 June 2, 2010 at 5:02 pm #

I love them! (I seem to say that a lot about your photos!) But my favourite is definitely the first one, it’s fabulous!

    • mrsw June 3, 2010 at 9:31 am #

      Thanks Livi

    • mrsw June 3, 2010 at 9:31 am #

  17. If I Could Escape June 2, 2010 at 8:30 pm #

You’re amazing! Years ago I tried to take a still life photo of my oldest son’s baby shoes. Erm, it didn’t quite turn out as I expected! Can you give me lessons?

    • mrsw June 3, 2010 at 9:35 am #

Take 500 photos – one of them should be OK! (that’s all I do).

  18. Nova June 2, 2010 at 9:20 pm #

As usual fantastic and I could keep looking at every one of those photos. Looks as though we all need some tips from you! ;0)

    • mrsw June 3, 2010 at 9:36 am #

See above lol! Quantity over quality is the answer – works (most of the time) for me.

  19. Crystal Jigsaw June 2, 2010 at 9:43 pm #

Haven’t had a good game of scrabble for ages, with words like poo I think I’d be quite good at it. Great photos.

    CJ xx

    • mrsw June 3, 2010 at 9:37 am #

And that’s without a time limit – took ages to come up with “poo” 🙂

  20. snafflesmummy June 2, 2010 at 9:49 pm #

Wow, what stunning photos. They look like postcards. I love the purple converse’s

    • mrsw June 3, 2010 at 9:38 am #

  22. Plan B June 2, 2010 at 11:05 pm #

Mrs W! You are, as ever, amazing. plus that tip with the white tablecloth is awesome. Going to be using that for my hats.

    • mrsw June 3, 2010 at 9:40 am #

Thanks muchly – shoot in RAW if at all possible so you can jiggle the white balance if it all goes a bit yellow or blue – I’m so lazy – I’m sure there’s a way of fixing up white balance before I take a photo but meh – tis the digital age 🙂

  23. Sandrine June 3, 2010 at 7:01 am #

I love those! They’re so full of life, and no – not very still.

    • mrsw June 3, 2010 at 9:42 am #
