What passes for charity (and art) these days

30 Jun

Small town, market, charity event. You know the sort of thing. A street full of stalls selling crafty knick-knacks and jumble type stuff.

Whilst browsing my Mum happened upon a small junior Meccano set. Paul had spent the previous night with his Grandad happily banging 4″ nails into bits of wood to make swords so my Mum thought he’d quite like a bash at Meccano.

Despite the very reasonable price tag of £1 Granny didn’t realise it was 2nd hand until she opened it at home and a whole mish mash of bits tumbled out onto the floor.  There were no instructions.

But there was a notebook.

How kind of the child who donated it to write out the instructions.

However the first page did not bode well…

Whatever could it mean? Was this Meccano just too difficult for little hands?

After a few blank pages, perhaps testing reader durability, the next page revealed…

Oh dear. Not instructions then? Well certainly not Meccano instructions.

Onto the next page..

Oh flippin’ heck! I’m not sure what it is but it looks sore!

There was more…

Seriously are you not worried about this woman? She needs a doctor, or at the very least a set of tweezers.

Put it all together and what have you got?

Obviously.

By now my Mother is barely able to catch her breathe from the giggling.

The final page…

Oh the disappointment!

But sadly typical and representative of the p.r.o.n. industry. Only to be expected I guess.

We’re assuming this is the point at which the little artist almost got caught and stashed their masterpiece into the Meccano box.

So please, check all the bits are there (fnar fnar) before donating toys to charity.

Instructions would he handy too.

This is the kind of stuff that I dream of finding when I shop at thrift stores. You should submit this to Found Magazine http://www.foundmagazine.com/.

Ah, those kids of today don’t know how lucky they are. When we were kids, we didn’t have the luxury of notebooks to doodle in, we just drew our rude stuff straight onto the school desk.

I’m sorry, but I’m slightly precious and I find that offensive. I don’t think I’m going to be able to read your blog anymore. I didn’t realize your wrote about things like THAT!! I feel a swoon coming on.

So seriously, who got all uppity with you? I’m feeling curious (nosy).

Hey, you need to warn us pregnant women with weak bladders to make sure we have our Tena Ladies pads on before posting something as funny as this.

Oh boy, this made my day. Reminds me of the time Richard Baylis drew an enormous penis in my college library copy of Seamus Heaney’s ‘Wintering Out’, and he pressed so hard with the pencil that how ever hard I rubbed it (fnurr!) i couldn’t get rid of it. We were both 17, not 7, though.

  26. Ladybird World Mother July 9, 2010 at 1:09 pm #

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Bloody marvellous!!!! Wondered where that had got to… can I have it back please??! (actually it really is rather like something my children would write, rather worrying really)
